On June 5th of this year, the Guangzhou Museum and the Palace Museum jointly launched the “Ancient Clock and Watch Artifact Restoration Collaboration Project.” Since the establishment of the “Ancient Clock Restoration Room” jointly created by the two museums, this project marks their first and most significant cooperation. It is worth noting that the Guangzhou Museum received its collection of several precious “Guangzhou clocks” from the Palace Museum in the 1960s, forging a profound friendship between the two institutions. After 40 years, the Palace Museum once again dispatched a professional team led by Wang Jin and Qi Haonan to Guangzhou to carry out this restoration project for ancient clocks and watches. Currently, the project has achieved significant progress.
What is the history behind these ancient clocks and watches? What are the challenges involved in their restoration? How do artifact restorers impact these cultural relics? During his breaks from work, Wang Jin, the clock and watch restorer who gained fame a few years ago due to the documentary, Master in Forbidden City, shared his thoughts in the video. #artandculture
